International business continuity management systems standard is being revised: Have your say!

The public consultation process for the revision of the international business continuity management systems standard, BS EN ISO 22301 DIS Business continuity management systems, is open until 26 February 2019.

ISO has released the official ISO 22301 Draft International Standard for Public Comment (DIS). BSI, as the UK’s National Standards Body, is seeking to consult with continuity and resilience practitioners, managers, and other interested parties to participate in this review aimed at improving this hugely successful business continuity management system (BMCS) standard. Experts can register their comments online at:

The ability of an organization to continue operating during and after a disruption has never been more important, and its business continuity plans are the link to supporting the individuals and teams that will respond to that disruption. This public consultation of ISO 22301 will help ensure that it remains relevant to today’s business by providing up-to-date guidance in consistent and simple terms. .

BS EN ISO 22301 DIS Business continuity management systems specifies the requirements to establish, implement, operate, monitor, review, maintain and continually improve a management system. The aim of this system is to protect against, reduce the likelihood of occurrence, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disruptions when they arise.

The anticipated benefits of this updated international standard include increasing the capability to:

  • Inspire trust in your ability to continue operations through a disruption
  • Protect your reputation
  • Respond to legislative requirements
  • Reduce cost of disruption
  • Create a competitive advantage
  • Contribute to Organizational Resilience

Anne Hayes, Head of Governance and Resilience at BSI, said: “Our business landscape is constantly changing and therefore our continuity strategy and so the solutions to deal with disruption need to keep evolving too. There is clearly a dependency between those who implement solutions and those who help shape the standard. This is why we are encouraging everyone to engage and share their feedback on this draft international standard.”
