ALTR Launches Open-Source Data Governance Integration Initiative

by Jon Seals | February 24, 2023 | | 0 comments

ALTR invests in the data ecosystem with launch of open-source initiative, release of integrations with Alation and Matillion, and hiring of industry-veteran Stephen Campbell as VP of Alliances & Partners to promote data stack interoperability and reduce friction for data customers

MELBOURNE, Fla. — ALTR, innovator of complete data control and protection solutions, today announced its open-source data governance initiative with support from Alation Inc., the leader in enterprise data intelligence solutions, and Matillion, the leader in data productivity, built for the  Snowflake Data Cloud. This initiative will provide customers with a simplified, barrier-free cloud data stack.

While other vendors in the data space are focusing on exclusive marketplaces or charging for custom integrations, these industry innovators are bringing this open-source approach to the traditional data governance market. Non-proprietary integrations enable seamless data governance, with access control and security spanning from database to data catalog through ELT to cloud data platforms. Complexity is removed for customers by allowing generally-available software to connect to generally-available software via plug-and-play.

“This is the next step in the evolution of the data ecosystem,” said James Beecham, CEO, ALTR. “Organizations shouldn’t have to make huge investments so that their data solutions can talk to each other. Free integrations between tools that classify, catalog, migrate, and secure data throughout the cloud data ecosystem facilitate interoperability and remove barriers – essential to a world where data is most valuable when it can flow freely.”

“Data engineer, data governance, and data security professionals who face reduced headcounts and budgets, yet are still expected to move data, need their software investments to work together to solve big business problems in the easiest, fastest, most economical way possible,” Beecham continued. “Open-source connections will have to become the standard for the data ecosystem. Solutions that limit customers, silo the data supply chain, or require intense effort and cost to integrate will be left behind.”

Another indication of ALTR’s investment in the future of the data ecosystem, the company announces the hiring of industry veteran Stephen Campbell as VP of Alliances & Partners. Campbell  brings 25-plus years of experience leading and operating alliances, technology partnerships, and go-to-market functions in hyper-growth environments. Known as a transformational change agent, Campbell  joins ALTR from Incorta and previously held leadership roles overseeing strategy and growth for Collibra, Aginity, MapR, VMware, and HP. He will spearhead expanding the open-source integration initiative to the broader data ecosystem by bringing on additional technology and system integrator partners.

“Data users should be able to tokenize data within 48 hours, set policies within a week, and be fully in production in less than 30 days,” said Campbell. “Open-source integrations are key to technology partnerships that can reduce that ‘time to first value’ and ‘time to full value’ for our joint customers.”

“At Alation, we see significant value in providing open integrations and connectors to all data sources within the data ecosystem,” said Diby Malakar, Vice President, Product Management, Alation. “ALTR’s integration aligns with our open connector strategy and removes friction and heavy lift from partners or customers to extend data classification and data access control via open-source connectors. We are excited to work more closely with ALTR, and enable customers to choose from best-of-breed solutions.”

“Data productivity is critical to driving modern business and flexible integrations are key to building efficient data products,” said Ciaran Dynes, Chief Product Officer, Matillion. “ALTR’s open-source integration allows Matillion customers to freely extend ALTR’s tokenization security to their data pipelines, helping them deliver business-ready data      faster and more securely.”

TDECU, one of the USA’s top 75 credit unions, is already planning to utilize the open connector framework to combine Matillion ETL with ALTR tokenization.

ALTR was one of the technology partners invited to attend Matillion Super All Hands 2023 February 14-16 in Manchester, UK. ALTR led a session titled ‘The Future of Data Governance with Matillion and ALTR’.

Tarik Dwiek, Head of Technology Alliances at Snowflake, said: “Snowflake remains focused on building its Data Cloud ecosystem and working to bring our partners together on new innovations is critical to empowering our joint customers. We look forward to continuing to work with ALTR to deliver impactful solutions to data customers.”

Open-source integrations also enable regional and global Solution Integrators to more quickly and easily build data stacks that meet the specific needs of their customers. Cloud solution provider AllCloud is already utilizing ALTR’s integration with Matillion to deliver tokenization during the ETL process for a leading independent customer experience company. ALTR and AllCloud deliver a solution that lets the client allow only a small number of stakeholders to access key business metrics while providing democratized access to data from multiple disparate systems to the rest of the company.

The integrations are available through ALTR’s GitHub open source repository. Any ALTR customer can leverage these integrations today.
