NEW YORK – Hazard and Risk assessment company Augurisk has just launched their free app Augurisk now to enable the public to see the potential crime and natural disaster risk of any area they are in or traveling to.
2020 has kept things interesting with a pandemic, economic uncertainty, social unrest, violence as well as an ever-increasing number of natural disasters.
Now, concerned citizens can use Augurisk’s free app to check crime risk and natural disaster threats of where they currently are. They can also check local COVID19 trends on the web version of the app. The app enables users to get notified if they enter areas, which are deemed of high crime risk.
Anyone considering buying a property can also use the app to determine the risk factors such as earthquakes, flooding, tornados, forest fires, etc., which could potentially affect the future value of the property.
With the help of a crime specialist sociologist, Augurisk’s team of scientists, data scientists, and engineers identified over 180 US feature out of thousands of variables, including socio-economic, demographic, geographic variables such as the proximity to police departments, and more relevant factors which were fed into multiple machine learning models, simultaneously developed, and used as a basis for its crime score algorithm. The crime risk prediction algorithms were trained and tested, achieving up to 77% accuracy in predicting whether a block group was exposed to 5 different crime levels.
Using their machine learning algorithms, their app predicts crime risk for all contiguous U.S. cities at the Census block group level, alongside the following information:
- Global crime risk score
- Predicted number of yearly violent crimes and violent crime risk score
- Predicted number of yearly property crimes and property crime risk score
- Predicted number of yearly vehicle thefts and vehicle theft risk score
- Predicted number of yearly vandalism acts and vandalism risk score
