CrashPlan Adds Chief Marketing Officer to Leadership Team

by Jon Seals | January 24, 2023 | | 0 comments

Appointment of growth-minded, channel-friendly IT and cybersecurity marketing veteran signals company’s bold plans for 2023

MINNEAPOLIS – CrashPlan today announced the appointment of Christine G.D. Schaefer as its new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). This strategic hire signals the company’s bold plans for growth, as Schaefer will leverage proven success expanding into new markets and building a channel to lead CrashPlan declarative efforts to bring its confident protection and powerful resiliency to more businesses and more people around the globe.

Christine G.D. Schaefer

“It’s incredibly exciting to come into an organization with such a strong foundation for growth — at such a critical time,” said Schaefer. “CrashPlan is already a leader in the market — protecting more than one million endpoint devices. But we have tremendous growth opportunities in front of us right now — and we’re ready to bust into new markets and build a channel, so CrashPlan can ultimately help more people.”

Schaefer’s appointment to CMO is CrashPlan’s first strategic leadership appointment since spinning off from Code42 in August 2022. With mounting market demand for data backup and recovery driven by the permanent shift to hybrid/remote work and continued proliferation of ransomware, CrashPlan’s independence allows the organization to execute on an aggressive strategy to focus on and expand its backup and recovery product suite and achieve CrashPlan’s goal of protecting the world’s data from destruction, theft, loss and ransom.

“We’re thrilled to have Christine join the CrashPlan team as CMO. Her track record of success and versatile set of skills perfectly fit the watershed moment we’re in at CrashPlan,” said John Becker, CEO of CrashPlan. “The spinoff empowered us with the autonomy to pursue the growth opportunities we see all around us. As we build and scale new routes to market, Christine’s inspiring vision for CrashPlan — along with her proven success driving channel growth and developing tech partnerships across B2B, B2C and B2G markets — are exactly what will lead us to capture these opportunities.”

With more than 20 years of marketing leadership experience in IT and cybersecurity, Schaefer is a proven, revenue marketing executive with the ability to guide successful strategy and drive results to support the company’s continued growth and rapid market expansion. Schaefer most recently served as VP of Revenue at BlackCloak, an award-winning provider of SaaS-based cybersecurity and incident response for executives, high-profile individuals and their families. At BlackCloak, Schaefer built a unified sales, marketing and partner team to grow direct and channel sales in both B2B and B2C markets, ultimately growing annual recurring revenue (ARR) ten-fold in just two years. Prior to joining BlackCloak, she helped propel the exponential growth of ThreatConnect, the well-respected threat intelligence and security orchestration, automation, and response platform provider, developing go-to-market strategies that included building a new tech partner program from the ground up.
