FirstNet Puts Public Safety First with Nationwide Dedicated Wireless Broadband Network

by Jon Seals | February 27, 2025 | | 0 comments

Network Ensures First Responders Have Always-Reliable Communications and Access to the Most Innovative Technologies

LAS VEGAS, NV – Now more than ever first responders need a communications network they can rely on. With an uptick in natural disasters and unpredictable emergency events, FirstNet is working to ensure that public safety officials have access to the most reliable communications during critical operations and emergencies. The Public Safety Broadband Technology Association (PSBTA) is dedicated to investing in, expanding and evolving FirstNet wireless priority and preemption for first responders. For more information visit (https://thepsbta.org/).

“The PSBTA provides resources to public safety professionals on the fundamentals of FirstNet with the goal of continuing to evolve communications that will lead to smarter and more effective public safety services,” commented Richard Mirgon, Vice President and Treasurer of PSBTA.

FirstNet was born out of communications issues that were experienced by Public Safety during the 9/11 attack to ensure that our first responders are never behind technologically again. This service is leading the way in public safety technology through continuous network enhancements, constant technology evolution and innovation. The PSBTA provides resources to professionals on the fundamentals of the FirstNet wireless priority and preemption service with the goal of continuing to evolve communications that will lead to smarter and more effective public safety services.

Continued Mirgon, “The Public Safety Broadband Technology Association advocates for Public Safety to ensure that our first responders are always able to communicate, no matter the circumstances. It is our hope that Congress continues to support FirstNet to ensure stability for the evolution of the most reliable communications system in the United States.”

About FirstNet

The FirstNet Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network (NPSBN) was launched in 2018 by AT&T who was awarded the contract through a competitive, objectives-based RFP. Through an all-band solution for Priority & Pre-Emption, the NPSBN became immediately available for use. As of today, there are now more than 6.7 million FirstNet connections in use by approximately ~29.5K Public Safety agencies and organizations.

About PSBTA

The Public Safety Broadband Technology Association (PSBTA) is an organization focused exclusively on ensuring the success of the entire FirstNet ecosystem that includes the legal entity created by Congress, the network infrastructure, hardware and software, and the single most important component—the end users.
