Industrial cybersecurity firm Frenos, which builds AI-native tools for operational technology (OT) environments, has closed a $1.52 million seed extension round. Momenta and Exposition Ventures led the round, with additional backing from Riptide Ventures. The raise puts Frenos's total funding to date at $6.4 million.
Frenos plans to direct the new capital toward two areas: building out its customer success team to support a growing base of critical infrastructure and defense clients, and adding headcount to its AI research and development group.
SAIRA Gets an Upgrade
The funding announcement coincided with the launch of SAIRA Co-Work, an updated version of the company's reasoning engine built to function as an ongoing security partner rather than a one-off tool. It draws on live digital twin data to walk users through investigations and back up its findings with evidence. Looking ahead, Frenos said it's working toward a foundation model capable of handling longer context windows, aimed at enabling more autonomous engineering workflows.
Why Now
Industry projections cited by Frenos put the OT security market at $27.4 billion in 2026, with growth to $58.9 billion expected by 2031, according to MarketsandMarkets. The company attributes that trajectory to increasing ransomware activity, industrial espionage, and cyber-physical threats as IT and OT infrastructure continue to merge.
Frenos also cited a 2026 finding from Google's Threat Intelligence Group, which documented what it described as the first known zero-day exploit built using AI. The group cautioned that AI tools are lowering the technical bar for attackers looking to reverse-engineer software and develop exploits.
The Technology
At the core of the Frenos Platform is a digital twin, a virtual replica of a customer's network. The platform's AI agent, SAIRA, uses this twin to run simulated penetration tests designed to mirror how a real attacker would operate, tracing viable attack paths and linking together exploits and tactics in sequence.
According to Frenos, the platform demonstrated this in practice with one customer: SAIRA sifted through more than 12,000 flagged OT vulnerabilities and narrowed the list down to eight that were genuinely exploitable, a reduction in remediation noise of 99.9 percent.
By the Numbers
Frenos shared several growth figures covering the past twelve months:
- Annual recurring revenue has grown more than 10x since early 2025, with 215 percent growth logged in the first half of 2026 alone
- Year-over-year pipeline has grown 2.7x
- Average deal size has increased 5x as the company shifts toward larger enterprise customers
- Bookings for 2026 have already reached four times the company's full-year 2025 total, with five months still remaining
