Initiated by DigiCert, a global leader in digital trust, World Quantum Readiness Day highlights the urgent need for current security infrastructures to adapt to the impending quantum computing era. A recent Forrester study predicts that quantum computers could break all current cryptosystems within the next five to 30 years, with 70% of this happening in the next five years.
The first inaugural World Quantum Readiness Day, Sept. 26, encourages enterprises and governments to evaluate their readiness for the quantum age.

“As we approach the first World Quantum Readiness Day, it’s important to stay grounded when assessing the impact quantum computing will have on our digital world. Quantum computing brings unprecedented opportunities and significant challenges in the realm of data security, but now isn’t the time to panic about capabilities we haven’t yet seen in practice.
“It’s true that quantum computers, with their immense processing power, have the potential to break conventional algorithms in a fraction of the time it would take traditional computers. We’ve all seen the news articles discussing how every encryption in the world can be broken at any time, but this is an unhelpful narrative rooted in fearmongering. Reality shows a narrow use case that may or may not happen on an undetermined timeline.
“The best course of action organizations can take to prepare is to proactively evaluate their cybersecurity infrastructure for vulnerabilities related to quantum computing. For example, implementing quantum-resistant solutions like tokenization is essential for long-term data security. Tokenization, which replaces real data with randomized tokens, offers protection against the evolving threats posed by quantum computing.
