J2 Global Offers Free Patient Record Query Through Consensus Interoperability Platform During COVID-19 Crisis

by Jon Seals | March 30, 2020 | | 0 comments

Providers Can Obtain Critical Patient Information On-Demand Decreasing the Burden on a Stretched Healthcare Community

Los Angeles, Calif. –  J2 Global, Inc. (NASDAQ: JCOM), a leading Internet and information services company, announced today that it will offer healthcare providers free access to on-demand patient record query during the COVID-19 crisis through its recently introduced Consensus healthcare interoperability platform. On-demand record query is a valuable tool within Consensus that enables healthcare providers to access patient records needed for treatment through Carequality.

The need for sharing important patient information – facilitating requests and response for patient records – is vital to ensuring proper patient care during a public health crisis such as COVID-19. The Consensus query tool, connected by Kno2®, ensured timely, coordinated care responses by providing access to a comprehensive on-demand patient record-retrieval service, at no charge, from a surrounding community of providers.

The stress on frontline healthcare workers to quickly assess a patient’s acuity level and history, and prioritize patients at greater risk, has increased dramatically with COVID-19. Emergency rooms, urgent care centers, specialty providers, telehealth providers, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), durable medical equipment (DME) companies and others across the care continuum are all struggling with access to needed patient data. The Consensus query tool lessens that burden for the entire healthcare community with an on-demand record retrieval service.

“Consensus can be used to quickly and securely obtain patient data on past and current conditions and treatments from a surrounding healthcare community. This helps enable care teams to make better decisions at the point of care,” said Nate Simmons, President of J2 Cloud Services. “Consensus can be used by providers with or without an electronic health record system (EHR). Some EHRs already connect to Carequality. If not, Consensus users now have the benefit of on-demand query for no charge.”

“We are all deeply aware of the stress that the COVID-19 pandemic is putting on our healthcare system,” said Dave Cassel, Executive Director of Carequality. “Recognizing the need for patient information to flow seamlessly during this crisis, Carequality wants to ensure that as many clinicians as possible are able to take advantage of the nationwide connectivity the Carequality Framework provides. We have temporarily waived some prerequisites to access that make sense in normal times but can be removed to streamline access in extraordinary times.”

The full version of Consensus offers one comprehensive connection with a simple, inbox-like dashboard to manage all incoming and outgoing patient documents including cloud faxes, direct secure messaging, patient query and API integration into exchanges. Users do not need an EHR to provide this level of enhanced data fluidity and digital interoperability. Those with an EHR will find an easy workflow for integrating patient data.
