Leaseweb Announces the Launch of Leaseweb Dedicated Ampere Altra Servers

by Jon Seals | September 26, 2023 | | 0 comments

The new Ampere Altra Servers will provide Leaseweb customers in the Netherlands, Germany, and the US with unparalleled performance while also dramatically decreasing energy output

Amsterdam, Netherlands –  Leaseweb Global, a leading cloud services and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provider, today announced the launch of Leaseweb Dedicated Ampere Altra Servers in the Netherlands, Germany, and the US. This offering, based on HPE ProLiant RL300 Gen11 servers running the Ampere® Altra® family of processors, will help organizations accelerate their digital transformation through Cloud Native servers that offer unparalleled performance against lower power consumption.

Many Cloud Native applications demand more from the underlying infrastructure than virtual servers can offer. Companies can get the most out of a computing infrastructure when they have control over the physical server hardware. This enables them to configure higher computing performance (CPU/RAM/GPU), gain more network speed (10Gbps), and benefit from NVMe SSD, etc. To its already extensive offering of dedicated servers, Leaseweb has now added a new range, the HPE ProLiant RL300 Gen11.

The HPE ProLiant RL300 Gen11 was built for Cloud Native workloads and has the ability to linearly scale-out performance to match the needs of end customers. This is due to the Ampere® Altra® processor, which provides the server with competitive performance and much greater efficiency than previously possible. Additionally, it is the first available server that uses a CPU based on the Ampere Altra Servers Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) that delivers sheer raw performance to rival those of x86 CPUs while also consuming less power. Optimizing server efficiency ensures that the server hardware can meet the needs of scale-out cloud applications sustainably and under high load.

A stress test conducted by Leaseweb showed that the Ampere Altra Server was 30% more energy efficient than a legacy x86 server. The HPE ProLiant RL300 Gen11 also provides a substantially higher density per rack (up to 128 cores per CPU) compared to x86 CPUs. Research conducted by Ampere shows that its Ampere Altra Servers can decrease a data center’s footprint by two to three times compared to that of a legacy Intel or AMD-based model.

Mathijs Heikamp, Director of Product Management at Leaseweb, says: “We are convinced of the potential that the Ampere-based HPE ProLiant RL300 Gen11 servers have for us and our customers, while simultaneously contributing to our environmental goals. Although built for Cloud Native environments, these Ampere Altra Servers offer a perfect fit for any workload that requires a high computing density at the lowest cost with the greatest power efficiency. Typically, we have seen a lot of interest in our offering from companies in the AdTech and MarTech industry.”

Jeff Wittich, Chief Product Officer at Ampere, adds: “Over the past few years, we have seen the demand for power-efficient servers increase dramatically, driven by increasing scarcity of power, expanding water usage, and the difficulty of building more and bigger data centers. This need for a more sustainable approach is one of the reasons CSPs like Leaseweb are moving to Ampere’s Cloud Native Processors, which consume half as much power and, therefore, require half as many data center racks to deliver the same or more compute performance. By adopting the HPE ProLiant Gen11server with Ampere processors, Leaseweb is decreasing its energy footprint in its data centers and is providing a sustainable solution for its customers.”
