Linesight Completes Groundbreaking Sustainable Data Center Projects with NTT

by DRJ Editorial Team | February 25, 2021 | | 0 comments

Leading construction consultancy firm provides pivotal cost management services on Hillsboro and Chicago data center projects

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Multinational construction consultancy firm, Linesight, today announced the completion and launch of two data center projects with leading North American provider, NTT Global Data Centers Americas, Inc. Linesight provided cost management services on the two projects, located in Hillsboro, Oregon and Chicago, Illinois. Both projects represent groundbreaking work to meet ambitious sustainability goals, with renewable energy packages being offered to clients to support their own green initiatives. The Hillsboro location is also the only data center to be certified at level three by Cleaner Air Oregon, which is a program that regulates the emissions of toxic air contaminants from industrial and commercial facilities.

With an optimal climate for data centers and subsea cables providing connectivity to the Asian region, Hillsboro, Oregon is a prime spot in the Pacific Northwest. This retrofit project required demolition, as well as new requirements to reach sustainability goals, for which Linesight provided cost control. The two-story data center project in Chicago represents the first data center on a new campus. Linesight will also be involved in phase two of the project, which will double the IT footprint to a 72MW campus. Data center customers are attracted to the Chicago market for its affordable electricity, minimal risk of natural disasters, and low latency to both U.S. coasts by virtue of its central location.

“NTT continues to innovate with designs that deliver up to 100% availability with highly flexible power configurations to meet the ever-evolving, in-demand needs of this industry. This makes them a really exciting partner for Linesight to work with on their many groundbreaking projects,” said Alan Dowling, Commercial Manager at Linesight. “We are so pleased to be able to bring our industry knowledge, data center experience and cost management expertise to bear as NTT continues to expand in the Americas market.”

As a leader in the provision of construction consultancy services for the data center industry, Linesight has worked on over 260 data center facilities globally. Working with the largest data center owner-occupiers, colocation and cloud providers in the world, the company brings unparalleled expertise to support client demands, such as their sustainability agendas. Sustainable practices are becoming a priority in data centers to drive down costs and energy consumption, and to increase productivity. By 2025, capital spend on hyperscale data center projects is expected to reach $62bn and sustainability goals have a large bearing on this projected growth.

“We’ve worked on numerous data centers with the Linesight team,” comments Clay Frederick, Senior Director of Construction Operations at NTT Global Data Centers Americas, “They consistently bring strategic market insights, deep domain knowledge and experience to help us deliver our projects on time and on budget.”
