Hurricane Georges: A Special Report 3

Comdisco Recaps Recovery Efforts Recovery personnel were on alert when the first declarations due to Hurricane Georges came in and Puerto Rico-based customers were enroute to the facility. Ten days later, when the hurricane dissipated into thunderstorms over Georgia, the last customer in recovery mode rescinded its disaster declaration. In all, Comdisco supported 17 successful recoveries as a result of Hurricane Georges, the most recoveries due to a single event since the Chicago River flood in April 1992. Monday, Sept. 21 – Two declarations The first customer to declare a disaster was a manufacturing company’s Puerto Rico facility. Their subscription included recovery for an IBM AS/400 and Workarea Recovery Solutions with PC workstations, telephony, and LAN connections for an entire business unit. While Comdisco maintains a recovery facility in San Juan, this customer’s primary recovery facility is in the New York Metro, nearer the company’s headquarters. Puerto Rico was in the direct path
