Common Security Mistakes (And How To Remedy Them)

Written by  Asher de Metz, Sungard Availability Services

Let’s face it. Cyber attackers hold the competitive edge. They have a higher motivation than the average IT professional. The salaried IT guy spends his days focused on keeping the organization productive and at the end of the day wants to get home to his family. The attacker, however, is paid on results – possibly a multi-million dollar booty – and will work day and night to get the loot. Large criminal and government groups may employ and deploy against organizations today thousands of round-the-clock resources to gain access to private networks and data. Simply consider the rash of data breaches already this year at retailers and other major institutions, including government agencies and hospitals. As of May 20, data breaches have risen nearly 14 percent higher than year-ago levels, when they surged 30 percent. These are sophisticated security systems that cybercrooks have been able to breach and snatch vital information and data.
