The Edge Today: Where IT Should Focus


The topic of “edge IT” has become an area of intense focus for more and more data-driven organizations. This is for good reason, as the perimeter of the network has become a critical gateway for data collection and processing. The edge is now used to describe anything from remote office and branch office (ROBO) sites, to IoT sensors and equipment, mobile point-of-sale devices, manufacturing sites, and even deployed military missions, just to name a few. Each of the mentioned edge types can be radically different, each with unique functions.
