Why You Can’t Gamble on Data Protection

With major data breaches like Marriott’s making headlines and Facebook’s data privacy scandals shaking consumer confidence, data protection should be at the top of every business’s priority list. The cost of a data breach or data privacy violation is not cheap either, as new regulations like the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) have put a greater emphasis on imposing penalties for lackluster data protection policies, and new state-level regulations in the United States have put consumer data privacy rights in the spotlight. On top of all public focus on data-related issues, a recent global survey found that 64 percent of IT decision-makers agree that protecting critical information has not become any easier over the last five years. This is despite newer technologies being introduced to aid those processes.
