There hasn’t been an office worker nowadays who hasn’t spent at least part of their day wrestling with this or that new computer or program trying to get it to work. The boss said it will save time in the workday, but you spend the whole day trying to just turn the blasted thing on. The 1968 movie “2001: A Space Odyssey” by Stanley Kubrick built up that idea. He presented the computer as a character and even the enemy of the humans on this space mission. The astronauts needed the computer but at the same time they feared it.…

Thomas Magee is a federal civil servant with more than 30 years of experience in business continuity, emergencies, and other things for a variety of agencies. He is also a retired Army Reserve officer with 28 years of experience to include Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Magee has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Kansas, a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a master’s degree in communications from the University of Kansas. He graduated from a variety of Army and DHS schools to include CGSC. He resides in the Kansas City area with wife Renee and their two dogs.
