Without the Data, There is No Recovery

Whisper “Stuart Weitzman” to any discerning shoe lover, and you inspire a reverie. Seen often on runways and red carpets, Stuart Weitzman shoes make fashion headlines. In the United States, the shoes are available in high-end department stores, fine retail shops across the country, and in Stuart Weitzman freestanding boutiques across major cities nationwide. All of Stuart Weitzman stores use PCs to run their operations, which means a significant amount of critical company sales data resides on PCs throughout the stores. This presented a challenge for the IT department to keep track and manage. The stores’ critical sales data must be backed up nightly, and previously it had been using tape drives to perform this backup. However, there was no easy way of knowing when a backup problem existed. In essence, the stores lacked the technical expertise to diagnose and solve the hardware and software problems that frequently arose. Concerned about losing critical
