Are You Ready For The Conversation?

Ah, communications – we all need to do it day in and day out, some do it very well while others struggle, whether in personal or professional situations. Wikipedia defines communications as “the act of conveying intended meaning to another entity through the use of mutually understood signs and semiotic rules. The basic steps of communication are the forming of communicative intent, message composition, message encoding, transmission of signal, reception of signal, message decoding, and finally interpretation of the message by the recipient.” So, basically, figure out what you want to say, communicate, and figure out how the message was received. As business continuity professionals, we all communicate internally and externally on a daily basis with our peers, end users, IT professionals, vendors, and our managers. One of the most important conversations we can have, and it may come at the least planned time, is with our chief executives who we probably interact
