Organizations may view their historic struggles with backup, recovery, and perhaps even disaster recovery as over. Better backup software, disk- and flash-based backup targets, snapshot technologies, and cloud data centers have contributed to solving these challenges. However, before organizations officially deem backup, recovery and DR as solved, they need to account for changing recovery requirements. Organizations may assume they can recover virtual machines (VMs) to the same platform they initially hosted them. If so, they better rethink that assumption.
